Pupils celebrate the completion of their new school
Pupils in Hamilton are celebrating the completion of their brand new primary school.
Scott Brotherstone, project manager for Morgan Sindall, was joined by the excited pupils and head teacher Angela Murphy, to celebrate the end of the £6 million project to create a new, state-of-the-art Udston Primary School.
The new school has been built as part of South Lanarkshire Council’s £850 million Primary Schools Modernisation Programme.
“It was great to see the children so excited about their new school,” says Scott. “We’ve involved the pupils in the construction since we cut the first turf at the beginning of the year to give them a real sense of ownership of their new buildings, as well as giving them a chance to really feel part of the project. I think it’s paid off as they’re all so proud of their fantastic new surroundings.”
The new school features a host of environmentally-friendly features including a biomass boiler which will turn recycled waste into fuel to heat the building.
Mrs Murphy says: “We are all really excited and are very much looking forward to the move into our fantastic new building. Working with Morgan Sindall has been a great experience. We worked really well in partnership and the staff and children were kept fully informed of how the building was progressing at every stage. It was fantastic that we were able to watch developments from the old school building every day.”
