A topping out ceremony has been held to mark a major milestone in the £2.3 million expansion of Home Farm Primary School in Essex, which is being delivered by construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall Construction.

Teachers and pupils at Home Farm Primary School, Colchester, were invited to see their new school building taking shape, as Morgan Sindall’s project team celebrated reaching the highest point in the building’s structure.

Morgan Sindall Construction’s team gave pupils and staff the opportunity to put their own stamp on the new building and draw their self-portraits on one of its walls. Guests were also given a tour of the new site.

Home Farm’s expansion is being delivered on behalf of Essex County Council and will comprise a new block of nine classrooms and refurbishment work to the existing school building.

The expansion will double the school’s capacity from a one-form entry (210 pupils) to a two-form entry school (420 pupils). Detailed remodelling works are also to be undertaken within the existing school and construction work is expected to complete in September 2018.

Councillor Ray Gooding, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “We are delighted to be investing in the school improvements here for the benefit of children in Colchester. We look forward to seeing the end result which will help provide more school places to meet the growing demand in the area.”
Andrew Rowe, managing director at Concertus Design & Property Consultants, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating this milestone at Home Farm Primary School, the team’s collaborative working goes hand in hand with the project’s success. A big thank you to everyone for their hard work so far.”

Morgan Sindall Construction is currently on-site at major schemes across the region. In Lowestoft, the company has been appointed to a deliver the new headquarters for world-leading UK marine science agency Cefas (The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science). The development will provide the organisation with a purpose-built, sustainable building and refurbish their existing laboratories to bring them up to date, enabling Cefas to continue to build on its 115-year-old globally-recognised marine science heritage.
