Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure marks key MUGA milestone at Roydon Primary School
Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure has celebrated the completion of a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) at Roydon Primary School, near Diss, with a special celebratory event.
The completion of the MUGA marked a key milestone in the delivery of the £5 million school project which the company is constructing for Norfolk County Council (NCC) under the Norfolk County Council Construction Framework. The scheme is part of a £169 million investment by NCC to increase the number of school places in Norfolk by expanding or building new schools.
The wider project works to improve Roydon Primary School will see the school undergo a large expansion, increasing its capacity from 250 to 420 students and is due to complete next year.
The build will create eight new classrooms, a main hall, food technology room, reception area, offices, toilets and storage space. Teachers will also be given a new staff room as part of the expansion, while sections of the school’s main building and library, which dates back to 1886, will be refurbished.
The project also involves the removal of four old mobile classrooms, and encompasses extensive external works including the construction of a new car park, vehicular entrance and remodelling of the existing car park to create a hard play area.
The whole school turned out for the event held outside on the MUGA, where stories were told and the school choir sang. Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure’s senior site manager Justin Hunt, cut a ribbon to mark the official opening of the games area before pupils and teachers enjoyed a kick-about on the new pitch with the project team and the company’s managing director in the East, Saul Humphrey with 12 footballs the company donated for the school’s PE lessons.
Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure managing director in the East, Saul Humphrey, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the opening of the new games area at Roydon Primary School with this joy-filled event which included song, stories, and of course, a good kick-about on the new MUGA pitch!
“The project team has been privileged to get to know this great school community during our time on site. We’re delighted to have reached this key milestone on the project and to be making good progress on the construction of the new school.
“We look forward to delivering an outstanding new school for pupils and teachers at Roydon Primary School and to enjoying more celebrations in the future.”
During the celebration assembly Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure also presented the school with a defibrillator and has arranged defibrillator and first aid training for staff.
