Morgan Sindall backs UK core cities on international stage
The competition to attract funding for regeneration schemes is always intense, and Britain’s pending exit from the EU has meant that efforts are being redoubled to get across the message that the UK remains an attractive place to invest. At this year’s MIPIM, the major international property convention in Cannes, the Department for International Trade once again led the UK government’s presence. London, the Midlands, Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle were amongst the UK regions making the investment case to some 24,000 delegates.
Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, along with representatives from other Morgan Sindall Group companies including Morgan Sindall Investments Limited, Lovell and Muse Developments hosted an official MIPIM event in The Palais des Festivals convention centre.
The main event – Winning the UK Regeneration Game – featured a keynote address from Homes England, with the agency addressing how it will accelerate the delivery of new homes where they are most needed. The panel discussion that followed included leaders from Liverpool, Nottingham and Slough – which have all made significant strides in urban renewal – along with Sean Bowles, managing director of Morgan Sindall’s Central region. The event was chaired by Michael Burton, editorial director of The MJ, the UK’s leading news title for local government.
Scott Wilson, Morgan Sindall’s business development director in Construction, said: “There were around 5,000 investors at MIPIM, whose interests span office, retail, leisure, housing and industrial schemes. We got the blame for the weather – downpours throughout the three-day event – but collectively the UK put on a good show of talks, seminars and discussions under the theme of innovation. The programme as a whole said loud and clear that the UK is very much open for business and looked at trends in the property sector, how the key players are adapting to take account of the changing market and what this all means for oversea investors seeking large scale opportunities.
Morgan Sindall has a good story to tell – not least of the long term and large scale transformation we and our Group companies have been delivering in Slough, Bournemouth and elsewhere.”
