Morgan Sindall Construction appointed to £23 million West Suffolk Operational Hub

Plans are underway for the construction of a new £23 million operational hub in West Suffolk, following the appointment of Morgan Sindall Construction.

The West Suffolk Operational Hub (WSOH) is being developed to meet the changing needs for waste management in west Suffolk. The state-of-the-art facility is bringing a number of operational services together on one site to save money and to reflect the anticipated growth in population and housing in the area.

The site is located close to Bury St Edmunds at Hollow Road Farm in Fornham St Martin and includes a waste transfer station, a split level household waste recycling centre, vehicle depot and a re-use shop facility.

Three partner councils; Suffolk County Council, Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council are involved in the project and will use the site to provide waste collection and disposal facilities.

Councillors Peter Stevens and David Bowman, cabinet members respectively for St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath Councils, said: “The way in which this project is delivered is important and Morgan Sindall Construction has already established its credentials with a strong community engagement plan and we look forward to working with the business.”

Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member responsible for waste, Councillor Paul West said: “Following an extensive period of planning and consultation, it is good to see work beginning on site to develop a facility that is fit for the future needs of residents across west Suffolk. Morgan Sindall has a good reputation for delivering important infrastructure projects like this and I look forward to following progress as the hub begins to take shape in months to come.”

Morgan Sindall Construction is currently on site at major schemes across the region. In Lowestoft, the company has been appointed to a deliver the new headquarters for world-leading UK marine science agency Cefas (The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science). The development will provide the organisation with a purpose-built, sustainable building and refurbish their existing laboratories to bring them up to date, enabling Cefas to continue to build on its 115-year-old globally-recognised marine science heritage.
