This £21 million project consisted of the upgrade of two colleges in Teesside. This involved building a £14.2 million, eco-friendly replacement main teaching building and sports centre for Bede Sixth Form College in Billingham, as well as a £6.8 million extension and refurbishments at Stockton Riverside College in Stockton-on Tees.
The Bede College project consisted of a two-storey facility featuring a full range of educational facilities including classrooms, specialist music facilities, communal social and refreshment areas, a central hall and a ‘music pod’. We also built a separate sports hall building featuring synthetic sports pitches, and installed hard and soft landscaping.
At Stockton Riverside College, we delivered a new extension which accommodated reception areas and covered access points for the building. The project also involved the reconfiguration of existing facilities, including the library and learning resource centre. A nursery and hair and beauty teaching facilities were then relocated into these upgraded buildings.
The new buildings include the use of rainwater harvesting facilities and biomass boilers.
The project required a high level of interaction with the college management team to phase and manage relocation of existing facilities, as well as to manage the construction process that required the marrying of new and existing structures.
