Project description

The keystone of the council’s city centre masterplan, Marischal Square comprises of:
  • Two office buildings with 173,500 sq ft of Grade A office space and secure parking
  • 28,000 sq ft of space for seven restaurants and café bars. Current occupiers include national restaurant chain Prezzo and ice cream parlour Mackie’s of Scotland
  • A four star 126-room Residence Inn by Marriott
  • Modern civic and communal spaces, where new construction complements existing buildings such as the ‘Provost Skene’s House’ museum and Marischal College.

The development also features the part-pedestrianisation of Broad Street, which creates a new area of public space including fountains, grassed areas and event space. This new area gives greater prominence to the 469-year-old Provost Skene’s House.

The Morgan Sindall design team used a level 2 BIM model on this project. This was invaluable in developing the design and devising the construction methodology. Through the model a number of clash detections were identified and resolved which improved both programme and site waste performance as the project progressed.
