Project description

In 2012 Electricity Alliance MSVE, a joint venture between Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and Vinci Energies, signed an Area Alliance Agreement with National Grid. The Electricity Alliance MSVE will deliver refurbishment and reinforcement schemes on the electricity transmission (275kV and 400kV) network across England and Wales to meet increases in demand.

The first scheme as part of this agreement was the Brinsworth to Thorpe Marsh 400kV overhead line project near Doncaster. The project involved the design and installation of all permanent equipment, including insulators and fittings, and replacement of steelwork on 57 towers.

The second scheme, Hutton to Quernmore Tee, is a 400kV refurbishment scheme, forming part of the main interconnector link between Scotland and England. The enhancement to this strategic link enables new forms of electricity generation to join the transmission network, increasing the capacity of the line.  The project involved the design and replacement of conductor and fittings on 101 towers across a route that featured several road crossings, including the M6 Motorway, a railway and a river crossing.

  • It was essential that all works were delivered within the network’s dedicated outage periods
