Our stakeholders

Communities
We are committed to building positive, long-term relationships with the local communities where we work. Our local offices actively engage with community groups in a wide range of ways. We hire local labour whenever we can. We provide training opportunities for young people and donate our resources, skills and expertise to support local charity initiatives, community interest groups and special events. Through open days, project presentations, feedback sessions, newsletters and other project communications, we make sure we consult with and talk to the people we impact so we understand, respect and do our best to accommodate their needs and concerns.

Customers and end users
We focus on developing effective customer relationships because it is a key factor in delivering value for money in capital projects. Engaging in regular dialogue with our customers helps us continuously improve our performance, raise our standards and deliver outstanding value, quality and service. We use formal processes and procedures to develop effective relationships at all levels. What we do is specific to the individual project or framework. For this reason, we engage and communicate with them in a wide range of ways from face-to-face meetings, briefings, customer charters and feedback sessions, to project bulletins, newsletters, progress reports and updates.

Employees
We gain commitment from our employees by keeping them informed and engaged in all areas of our business. Our company intranet provides a daily news and information service as well as a forum for ideas, feedback and sharing and exchanging information. We seek feedback from our staff through team briefings, forums, workshop and surveys. These initiatives are supported by specialist company newsletters and magazine, bulletins and briefing documents on key issues from training and development to working safely on site. We also consult with our people on changes that affect them and discuss business developments through local, regional and national forums and conferences.

NGOs, charities, regulators and other stakeholder groups
We work with and support non-governmental organisations, trade associations and charities on key issues and initiatives we believe we can add value and contribute to. They include the British Research Establishment,  Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, the Construction Industry Training Board, Carbon Trust, National Blood Service, the Waste Resources & Action Programme (WRAP) and many more.  We are also active on a number of industry forums and policy advisory groups and we work closely with regulators such as the Environment Agency and the Health & Safety Executive to make sure that we operate to the highest industry standards.

You can find out more about our work with these and other organisations in the News section of our website.

Suppliers and partners
We believe in involving our suppliers and business partners as soon as we are involved on a project through team meetings, sharing our expertise and documentation, intra-business communications, workshops, training and best practice sessions. This ensures we know and understand each other and what we need to achieve to deliver the best project outcome for our customers.
