9.4 kilometre tunnel to upgrade Belfast’s sewers
This contract was part of an overall scheme to upgrade Belfast’s outdated Victorian sewer network which can no longer cope with the needs of the expanding city. The new system provides one in 30 year flood protection, substantially reducing the volume of untreated storm water entering the River Lagan and its tributaries.
