Tunnelling innovations help quarry expand
This project involved the construction of a 120 metre long, horseshoe shaped tunnel, located five miles south east of Plymouth city centre. The tunnel was built to connect the existing 120 acre Moorcroft quarry
to an adjacent 70 acre site allocated for expansion of the quarry. Built under a local highway, the tunnel has minimised noise and disruption to the local area.
By developing the nearby site, customer Bardon Aggregates, a subsidiary of Aggregate Industries, was able to guarantee a supply of aggregates from this location for the next 50 years.
