300 metres of underground station development complete

The London Underground King’s Cross and St Pancras station redevelopment consisted of the upgrading of the existing underground station. This was to allow more people to use the facility, to
accommodate the higher volume of passengers expected following the completion of the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) terminus at St Pancras and the proposed regeneration of the King’s Cross area, including the main line station terminus. Morgan Sindall’s Tunnelling Services business unit, working as part of a joint venture with Beton-und Monierbau of Austria (MBJV), was awarded Package Two of the Phase II works, which encompassed all the tunnelling works associated with the redevelopment.

The provision of a new hub shaft sunk for tunnel construction access accommodates part of the Northern Ticket Hall. New tunnelled passageways allow enhanced pedestrian access to the deep level underground lines of Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria. New mobilityimpaired lifts provide step-free access to all platforms.
