Waterloo station roof refurbishment

Morgan Sindall were appointed as the design and build contractor responsible for all elements of the design, procurement, project management, commercial and programme control.

Waterloo station, one of London’s best-known landmarks and the UK capital’s train transportation gateway to Europe, stands today as a marvel of Victorian engineering.

After almost 100 years of protecting the travelling public from the elements, the existing station roof had reached the end of its effective life. Covering an area greater than several soccer pitches, the vast train shed was totally refurbished and re-glazed in a tremendous two year task which saw almost 25,000 panes of glass being replaced on the 28,000 m2 roof.
