Top class facilities for the maintenance of new trains

This project was required as a result of South Central Limited
introducing a new fleet to replace all Mk 1 Rolling Stock as part of the
Southern Region New Trains initiative.

Working in a joint venture with Colas Rail, Morgan Sindall improved
the existing depots and constructed new facilities, working alongside
Jacob Gibb, the designer.

The project provided new and improved facilities at five depots,
including Selhurst which is one of the largest in the country. Works
included civil and building works, electrical services, building services,
permanent way, signalling, 750 volts electrification, depot protection
works, CCTV, communication and IT works, with associated rail
systems.

The contract also included provision of temporary accommodation and
training for the train operator’s staff, production of operation and
maintenance manuals, production of as built drawings and maintaining
all new equipment until the final handover of the depot.
