Attack Helicopter Infrastructure, Wattisham Airfield
The Army was introducing the Apache Attack Helicopters into service and required new base facilities. As part of the project, we carried out:
· Extensive refurbishment and new build extensions to seven hangars
· Construction of six new buildings to house junior ranks and officer living accommodation
· Refurbishment of survival equipment store
· Extension to armourers’ workshop.
Logistical challenges
This was a logistically challenging project as there were a total of 45 separate work locations across the base which meant that the project was handed over in phases. We also provided the Army with temporary accommodation as part of the scheme.
As the site was next to an operational flight line, we worked closely with the Army to ensure that construction activities did not affect military operations.
