Airbus composite wing production facility
We will build the 52,300m2 North Factory which will be used to assemble carbon fibre wings. The facility is seen as pivotal in the development of the UK aviation industry. The new building will also accommodate operational facilities including workshops, welfare facilities, offices and reception areas.
The facility will comprise a steel-frame structure in a three-bay configuration featuring two outer bays with column-free spans of 83 metres and a central bay with a 35-metre clear span. The design incorporates a 40,200m2 assembly area floorplate with high specification concrete floors and machine bases supported on approximately 8,000 piles. The facility will include an extensive overhead craning system for the movement of materials, components and assembled wing structures.
