Sir William Rous Unit, Kingston Hospital
This project involved the construction of a two-storey, free-standing structure to provide an oncology outpatient and diagnostics laboratory facility for Kingston Hospital NHS Trust. It provides mammography and ultrasound clinics, chemotherapy and advice for people living with cancer. Around 40 patients are treated at the facility every week.
The building was constructed using a steel frame with suspended first and second floor slabs. The ground floor external walls are traditional with brick outer skin and block work inner. The first floor walls use a terracotta rain screen cladding system. There is a mixture of hardwood and aluminium windows and doors with horizontal brise soleil louvres to the south, east and west elevations.
There are a number of different roof finishes including three areas of sedum (green) roof, traditional flat roof and a metal standing seam roof.
