National Cycling Centre
We won the contract to build the first Olympic-standard indoor velodrome in the UK.
The form of the building echoes the shape of the cycle track; oval in plan and streamlined in elevation with a single span roof of 10,000m². Its dramatic shape provided several construction and engineering challenges.
Providing state-of-the-art facilities
The concourse level provides a complete 360 degree velodrome as well as hospitality suites, a bar, ticket sales area and concessions areas.
The service level accommodates the velodrome, changing rooms, a warm-up and weight training area, a physiotherapy suite, first aid and injury clinics, a workshop and storage area for bikes, dining and recreation areas for competitors, and dedicated areas for members of the press, juries and stewards.
Tunnels for competitors link this part of the building to a basement floor which accommodates plant rooms and emergency access.
