The Cumberland Infirmary

The 39,200m2 hospital building consists of four linked pavilions with a central atrium, providing access to all floors via open walkways and bridge links. The hospital was designed so that the pavilions or ‘smaller hospitals’ could be built simultaneously, speeding up the overall construction process. Critical care activity occurs on the first floor, half of which houses a suite of operating theatres, recovery, intensive care and high-dependency beds and surgical wards.
