Civil engineering works create largest co-firing biomass plant in the world

Working on behalf of Alstom Power Boiler Retrofits, Morgan Sindall designed and undertook the civil engineering works for the co-fired biomass facility at Drax Power Station in Selby, North Yorkshire.

The improvement works, which have made the station the largest cofiring biomass plant in the world, will enable the power station to receive, handle, store and process a variety of biomass materials before they are directly injected into Drax’s coal-fired boilers where they are burnt alongside coal.
