Royal National College for the Blind
We were awarded this prestigious contract to demolish the existing Norwood House, followed by the design and construction of 56 en-suite student residences, a sports centre and complimentary therapy centre, synthetic external sports pitch and associated external works on a live college campus environment.
The new three-storey student residence provides 56 en-suite bedrooms, designed to accommodate the needs of partially-sighted students. The design focused specifically on the quality of lighting, internal navigation and spatial awareness. The sports complex provides dedicated resources for curriculum teaching including classrooms, specialist vocational teaching facilities and administration. Specialist sports facilities were provided for blind football matches, completed well in time to host the 2010 World Blind Football Championships. External works included new car parks, pavements and landscaping, all sympathetically designed to accommodate the specialist needs of the students.
