Cardinal Heenan and Broughton Hall High Schools 

Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School is an all-boys school. The main school building, a former orphanage, is in a poor state of repair and is an obstacle to the school’s educational vision. The majority of the school will be demolished and replaced by a new three storey 8,000m² teaching block, which will accommodate a food court, art and technology department and a music and performing arts department. This will help the school move towards enterprise and personalised learning.

 

Broughton Hall High School is a girls school which has found its plans for personalised learning and curriculum delivery restricted by the size of the existing teaching areas. The scheme involves the demolition of the main 1950s teaching block and science department. It will be replaced by a brand new three-storey 6,000m² building providing large modern spaces for flexible teaching which will house learning hubs, a separate food court, sports hall and music department. 

 

While the two schools will remain separate, a new three storey 2,750m² sixth form building will be created linking the entire complex via a bridge link which will accommodate a state of the art learning resource centre, science departments and multi use teaching spaces.
