Ynysowen Primary School
The brief for the project was to construct a new single-storey primary school complete with the following facilities; 17 classrooms, two dining rooms serviced from a fully fitted kitchen, a main hall which could be easily converted into a gymnasium during P.E. lessons, administrative offices, a community room, art and music facilities and a new covered outside play area.
Before work started, significant land reclamation works had to be undertaken. The site was plagued with Japanese Knotweed which required specialist eradication treatment. An ecologist also found recent evidence of bats and otters being present in the area. The result of the which led to the installation of six bat boxes to re-house and maintain the flight path of the bats, along with a requirement to fill any gaps in the sites hoarding, specifically the gaps between the bottom of the heras panels and the ground to prevent otters accessing the site and putting themselves in unnecessary danger
