Suffolk New College

Morgan Sindall was awarded a £44 million contract to build a replacement for building at Suffolk New College, in Rope Walk, central Ipswich.

The brand new 22,100m² college includes a performance area, hair and beauty studio including a spa; engineering and construction workshops, IT suites, creative arts and media areas, general teaching and training rooms and a food court.

The on site team worked in a live environment so it was vital to liaise extensively with the college, its stake holders and local residents. Morgan Sindall kept the local community informed about its construction activities and arranged a number of residents’ meetings. Flyers were sent out to notify people of significant building events and viewing panels were installed into the site hoardings so that members of the public could watch the building works at a safe distance. Morgan Sindall also created a number of apprenticeships and made a commitment to using local labour.
