No. 1 Science Park, Exemplar Building

We were appointed to build a flagship eco-friendly two-storey open-plan office development for Blueprint on the Nottingham Science Park.

 

The new building has an adaptable layout which can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the end user. It also has undercroft car parking.

 

An energy pod at the side of the building houses a range of energy-saving technologies.

 

We also incorporated a ‘brown roof’ and natural ventilation to further minimise the environmental impact of the project.  The brown roof shields the roof membrane from solar damage and slows peak water run off to provide sustainable drainage.

 

We provided a central lilypad-shaped boardwalk across the wetlands. This serves a dual function as part of the Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS). 

 

We used Gabion retaining walls instead of concrete as a sustainable alternative, which blended in with the natural landscape.
