Waverley station project win

Morgan Sindall has been appointed by Network Rail to undertake improvement works to Edinburgh’s Waverley Station Princes Street entrance.

The £7 million contract will involve the Morgan Sindall team rebuilding Waverley Steps, installing escalators and covering the station entrance with a steel and glass canopy. Two lifts to allow step free access between Princes Street and Waverley Station will also be installed.

Jag Paddam, Morgan Sindall’s managing director infrastructure, said: “We are particularly proud to have been awarded this contract which further strengthens our working relationship with Network Rail. Our proven experience in this sector will allow us to deliver a high quality project which will benefit many rail users in the years to come.”

Ron McAulay, Network Rail director, Scotland said: “This project will vastly improve access for the thousands of passengers who use Waverley Station on a daily basis. It is extremely pleasing to appoint a highly respected contractor to begin work on Waverley Steps.”

The project will begin in February and is expected to be completed by July 2012.
