Morgan Sindall plc has been awarded an international accolade in recognition of its position as one of the world’s greenest companies.

The firm, which has secured a Green World Award for environmental best practice, will now be recognised as a Green World Ambassador to promote awareness of innovative sustainable practice on an international level.

Morgan Sindall is one of a small number of hand-picked companies that will be recognised at the prestigious award ceremony in New Zealand in October.

Morgan Sindall’s win follows a highly successful showing at the national round of the competition - the Green Apple Awards - last year, during which the company surpassed 500 other nominees and scooped a bumper crop of awards.

The Green World Awards saw the Green Apple finalists go up against each other and the judges were impressed by the detailed evidence provided by Morgan Sindall outlining the company’s efforts to continuously promote sustainable best practice across its work force. This included an overall look at the company’s core sustainability focus on People, Planet and Profit.

John Homer, managing director for Morgan Sindall across the east of the UK, chairs the sustainability task-force, actively developing strategy, undertaking reviews and empowering colleagues to deliver.

He said: “The Green World Awards highlight the hard work of companies which have been successful in their efforts to ensure that sustainability is a key organisational priority.

“We’re honoured to have been recognised on an international scale as a company which really takes sustainability seriously and one which is focused on continuous improvements in this area. Delivering responsibly is a core component of our culture and touches every aspect of what we do both internally and externally. This ranges from nurturing the next generation of construction talent, setting leading standards in sustainable procurement, and encouraging and enabling our teams to go above and beyond to deliver and conceive truly pioneering delivery and design solutions.”

As part of its commitment to engage, inspire and educate the next generation about sustainable construction, the company recently hosted a STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Maths) ‘Grow Your Own Home’ challenge to educate students from across schools in Essex on the importance of sustainability and innovation in construction.

Morgan Sindall is currently working on a number of low carbon and Passivhaus projects, and has recently delivered the UK’s greenest commercial building, the Enterprise Centre at the University of East Anglia, which is set to achieve Passivhaus and BREEAM Outstanding rating.
