Morgan Sindall hosts a wild charity quiz at Dartmoor Zoo

The Plymouth office of Morgan Sindall has been doing its bit for the local community by hosting a charity quiz at Dartmoor Zoo, helping to raise over £1,500 for the recently registered charity.

Following on from the company’s involvement with the zoo as part of its nationwide Neighbourhood Week initiative last September, staff organised a charity quiz to raise funds for integral building works to be completed at the zoo.

The zoo’s owner, Benjamin Mee bought the zoo in 2006, swapping his life as a Guardian columnist for a life of exotic animals and big cats. His story was the subject of a film and a self-penned book.

During the office’s Neighbourhood Week, Morgan Sindall’s staff, along with a number of volunteers from the local community helped build a tree house at the zoo for children to enjoy and refurbished the zoo’s disabled toilets, using surplus materials from other projects.

The charity night attracted over 80 attendees, including local rugby team, Plymouth Albion. The night was a great success with over £1,500 raised to help the zoo build new toilet facilities and purchase additional timber. Morgan Sindall’s supply chain has also been involved and has donated materials to help with the completion of the refurbishment works.

Carl Heslop, area manager at Morgan Sindall, said: “The charity night at Dartmoor Zoo was a great success and it has been wonderful to create such strong relationships with Benjamin, who is an integral part of the local community. We were thrilled to be joined by the players from Plymouth Albion Rugby Team, who helped to make the event such a great night, as we raised a significant sum to help Dartmoor Zoo complete the refurbishment works. We would also like to thank the subcontractors for donating the essential materials to help with the building works.”

Work on the zoo is set to complete in June 2014.
