Morgan Sindall has been appointed to deliver a £4.1 million expansion of Queen’s Hill Primary and Nursery School in Norwich.

The project for Norfolk County Council comprises the construction of a 10-classroom extension that will allow the school to almost double its intake to accommodate the growth of Queen’s Hill estate.

The Morgan Sindall project team will also modify the existing assembly hall to create more space for indoor sports activities and deliver external landscaping including a new staff car park and planting areas outside the school.

Morgan Sindall holds close links with Queen’s Hill Primary and Nursery School having constructed the single-storey building nearly 10 years ago. The school has specially selected three ambassadors who have been eagerly documenting Morgan Sindall’s progress for the school website.

The extension will see the school increase from a two-form to a three-form entry facility and will be completed by spring 2017. Currently the school accommodates 315 pupils and 26 nursery places but needs to expand due to the increasing number of homes on the Queen’s Hill housing estate.

James Joyce, Chairman of Norfolk County Council’s Children’s Services Committee at Norfolk County Council said: “We are increasing the capacity to 630 pupils, which is going to make a huge difference to families living around Queen’s Hill. This expansion will also provide the youngsters with modern facilities in pleasant surroundings, which will hopefully encourage greater enjoyment from learning in new classrooms and better opportunities for sporting activities.”

Gavin Napper, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: “We’re delighted to be making progress on this important scheme which will help to alleviate the growing pressure for school places in the Queen’s Hill area.

“It speaks volumes that Morgan Sindall has been invited back to the site, having built Queen’s Hill Primary and Nursery School nearly 10 years ago. We’re really pleased to be making progress on the building and it’s great to see so much enthusiasm and involvement from the pupils and staff at the school. Morgan Sindall is well versed in delivering education projects of this nature and we look forward to completing the expansion.”

Morgan Sindall’s Queen’s Hill Primary and Nursery School appointment follows the firm’s appointment to carry out a £3.9 million expansion of Thetford Drake Infant and Nursery School in Norfolk. The project for Norfolk County Council is already underway and will provide the school with a spacious extension and refurbishment.
