Kentish Town Health Centre shortlisted for British Construction Industry Awards

A pioneering health centre built by Morgan Sindall and designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Kentish Town Health Centre in Camden is one of a select number of outstanding projects in the running for the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award.

The special category within the British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards, due to take place next month, rewards excellence in both design and procurement from across the public sector and is sponsored by CABE, the Office of Government Commerce and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The £10.6 million centre in Bartholomew Road, completed through an NHS LIFT agreement with Camden & Islington Community Solutions (CICS) last year, has further been nominated under the Building Project £3m - £50m category at the BCI Awards.

“We are thrilled this inspiring project has been recognised as an example of excellence in the construction industry by reaching the shortlist,” says Adrian Barnes, Morgan Sindall area director. “The state-of-the-art building offers integrated healthcare facilities for the local community and this has only been made possible by the fantastic partnership work from the entire project team.”

The centre opened in January 2009 and boasts a wide range of facilities for treatment and diagnosis including rooms for general practice, dentistry, children’s services, consulting, examinations, physiotherapy, audiology and breast screening services.

A staff library with a 10-terminal training centre and conference rooms has been created, along with improved access to psychology services, nursing, health visiting and baby clinics.

Kentish Town Health Centre was named Public Building Project of the Year at the national Building Awards 2010 in April in recognition of its good sustainable design and for the collaborative way it was delivered.

The scheme was carried out by Morgan Sindall, which has offices in Golden Lane, EC1, London, on behalf of CICS – a public private partnership between Camden PCT and Islington PCT, Community Health Partnerships and Community Solutions for Primary Care Ltd.

The BCI Awards will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Wednesday, 13 October.
