Sustainability

There are three main elements to sustainable development on which we can all have a direct and positive impact; people, profit and planet – the three ‘Ps’. With the conviction and engagement of all of us as individuals, as employees, as members of the construction industry and as global citizens, we can deliver surprisingly positive benefits in all three.

To demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, we have set out our objectives through our Safety, Health and Environment policy statement and Sustainability policy (to download, right-click and select 'save as').

Our Managing Director, Graham Shennan is fully committed to our sustainability principals and is the Board Director responsible for delivery throughout Morgan Sindall plc. Delivery is supported through Martin Worthington, Safe and Sustainability Director and Brian Handcock, Head of Sustainability.

Incidents

Our business has not been prosecuted or served notice in relation to environmental incidents. We pride ourselves in exemplar performance in preventing pollution from our sites.

Waste

Waste is a key feature of the construction process with potential impact through landfilling of waste. While the quantity of waste we generate (see graph, right) will change with the type of work we complete; we divert as much as possible from landfill. Our current performance is for 92% of all wastes to be reused or recycled.

Carbon

Our goal is to reduce our contribution to global warming through reducing our carbon footprint.

We have been measuring our performance since 2007; our overall trendline (shown) demonstrates continued improvement.
