Project description

This project formed part of a multi-million pound regeneration plan for Hattersley, Greater Manchester.

We undertook design and construction of a new foodstore shell, together with an associated decked, steel framed two storey car park. The building features glued laminated timber (glulam) beams and columns across two storeys of retail space, the upper level of which is a mezzanine floor accessed by escalator. The mezzanine also hosts staff offices and a public café. The superstore is one of the largest Tesco Extra Stores to open in the Manchester area.

Work included sheet piles, vibro piling, the diversion of existing drains and lime stabilisation works. External works included an outdoor parking area, service roads, landscaping and ramped access to the covered car park.

The project was handed over early to enable the customer’s fit out contractor to work alongside our team as the external works package progressed.

The building is built to Tesco’s ‘eco store’ standard and also achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating. Rainwater harvesting provides water for flushing toilets and for watering plants in the car park via an irrigation system. Natural ventilation has been created through the use of roof top wind-catchers, and a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system provides power to the development.
